Welcome to Reduce Your Footprint - it presents inspiration, ideas and the unique opportunity to share your experience, tips and advice with others on living sustainably. You may be surprised how small, easy changes can have positive impacts on the environment, your health and wellbeing - and save you money too!
This website and the various projects and activities contained within it is the result of a collaboration between Randwick, Waverley and Woollahra Councils and their communities, to work together to help reduce the community-wide Ecological Footprint of residents living in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. This partnership is supported by the New South Wales Government through its Environmental Trust.
The Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, comprising the three Local Government Areas of Waverley, Woollahra and Randwick, represent a number of iconic urban recreational, culturally diverse and environmentally sensitive opportunities managed within a high density population demographic of almost 240,000 residents.
The Ecological Footprint represents the amount of land and resources consumed by our communities to satisfy the needs of our modern lifestyle. If the world’s population used resources at the same rate as Sydneysiders, conservative estimates place the current Ecological Footprint as the equivalent of requiring 3 to 4 planets of resources each year.
Measure your ecological footprint today by visiting one of the following online calculators:
- World Wildlife Fund - Australia
- Bigfoot - Powerhouse Museum
- Global Footprint Network - for the science behind the footprint
