My compost bin is usually too moist- has bugs & little crawlies. How do I avoid this?

  • Mixing compost with something like straw which will help air flow through the mix will help with too much moisture as will turning it every week or so. As far as crawlies go, some crawlies are not a bad thing but if your compost has been taken over by sawfly larvae (fat, brown, wriggling maggots) then you might want to try putting some mesh over your compost bin's air intakes.
